I came to this conclusion already some years ago and recognize too much the same pattern just on different topics. One university teacher even replied me once that they weren't teaching students to help them find a place in the industry but they were teaching knowledge for the sake of knowledge. So don't be surprised. We are a doomed culture. The famous Rule : “Average level is mediocrity” (not sure I can claim it :-) ) applies also to Teachers and our Education System.
